Cannabinoids: Efficacy & Safety
Course Overview
Cannabis refers to Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, and hybrids of these two plant species. Cannabis is a flowering annual plant that is grown worldwide and is commonly referred to as either cannabis or hemp. Concentrated in the flowers and leaves of Cannabis sativa are more than 100 cannabinoids which are known to exert a range of psychological and physiological effects on the human body.
Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:
- Explain the legal and chemical differences between hemp and cannabis.
- Summarize the evidence for the use of cannabidiol (CBD) for various conditions.
- Explain how various cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid system.
- Describe adverse effects and safety considerations for various cannabinoids.
- Identify potential drug interactions associated with cannabinoid use.
About the Author/Presenter
Natalie Yates, PharmD, Assistant Clinical Editor at TRC Healthcare for NatMed, specializes in Natural Medicines. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of California, San Francisco.
