About the Course:
Delaying proper treatment due to poor diagnosis is detrimental to a patient's well-being. The sooner a patient with a non-musculoskeletal issue is referred to the correct practitioner, the sooner the patient will receive the best and most appropriate treatment. This dynamic course explores serious pathologies and disorders of the spine. Demonstration of appropriate physical tests and scans for the spine are presented, along with the latest evidence in screening and physical testing. Explore evaluative processes to improve awareness of differential diagnosis and test results. Participants will walk away with thorough knowledge of appropriate treatments and screenings for patients with musculoskeletal issues of the trunk and spine.
Learning Objectives:
Debra Dent is a Physical Therapist with over forty years of experience specializing in manual therapy of the spine. She is a graduate of the University of Manitoba, Canada where she received her Diploma of Physiotherapy in 1977 and her Bachelors of Physical Therapy in 1979. She was certified as a Part A Manual Physical Therapist from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association in 1989 and received her Advanced Diploma of Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy in 1994 (FCAMPT). USA Orthopedic Certified 4 of 108 Specialist (OCS) designation was completed in 1996 and re-certified in 2006 and to be recertified "Emeritus" in 2016. Debra is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manual Therapists (FCAMPT) since 1994. She retired from FCAMPT in 2019. She was an instructor for the Canadian Physiotherapy Association prior to moving to the USA. She was a guest clinical instructor at the University of South Florida from 2003-05, teaching the Spinal Manual Therapy Program for the MscPT undergraduate program. She has taught a large number of manual therapy courses in the US and Canada, teaching for the Canadian Physiotherapy Association Orthopaedic Division, North East Seminars and with Cross Country Education. She owns Cross Border Seminars, a Florida seminar company and teaches locally in the SE USA. She recently retired from active practice to teach. She is a photographer, captain/sailor and an avid runner.

- Identify the importance of the subjective evaluation and history in the process of differential Diagnosis.
- Recognize red and yellow flags for the cervical and shoulder girdle and objective examination to confirm.
- Locate the six most important statistical measurements used to determine a Gold standard evidence-based study as well as understanding what Clinical Prediction Rules are, their pros and cons.
- Identify musculoskeletal issues of the thoracic region.
- Identify four medical conditions that may refer to the spine but are non-musculoskeletal in origin and require a physician's intervention.
- Locate four CPR of the spine that have good reliability and are effective in use.
- Identify three dural tests that will assist in determining normal neuromeningeal pathway mobility.
- Identify different causes of dizziness and be able to differentiate between vascular insufficiency symptoms and BPPV.
