About the Course
This course provides athletic trainers and other healthcare professionals working in athletics with a set of standardized guidelines to implement during an emergency. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to complete an assessment of their own emergency policies and procedures and implement an updated emergency plan.
Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
- Identify the common scenarios that may require activation of an emergency action
- Confirm the essential components and key personnel members needed to enact a successful emergency action plan (EAP) during emergency situations
- Devise a venue-specific EAP while recognizing obstacles related resource availability and facility modifications
- Assess the value of appropriate medical personnel being present during sporting events
- Generate an evidence-based plan to review current EAPs annually to ensure compliance with best practice recommendations
- Construct a plan to implement strategies to reduce risk of various emergencies encountered during sport participation
About the Author/Presenter
J.D. Boudreaux received a Bachelor of Science degree from McNeese State University in 2003 as well as a Masters of Physical Therapy from LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport in 2005. In August of 2003, he became nationally certified as an athletic trainer and obtained his Sports Certified Specialist certification through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in 2011 and later recertified in 2021. He completed his EdD degree from the University of Louisiana Monroe in Curriculum and Instruction in the Fall of 2018. He has over fifteen years of experience as a dual credentialed sports medicine professional. He has spent seven years managing acute athletic injuries and directing the post-surgical rehabilitation of high-level athletes at the collegiate level. JD is the founder of EPIC Education and Consulting, LLC and is currently employed by a regional health system delivering care in an outpatient sports medicine clinic in conjunction with other medical professionals to a variety of individuals, including high school and collegiate athletes. JD is married to the former Stephanie Mayeux and the proud father of two daughters, Olivia and Anniston.
