Course Overview 
This course is intended for all healthcare professionals who care for clients who experience pain and dysfunction of the cervical spine. This course utilizes the most recent research for effective evaluation and treatment options for treating the cervical spine. Participants will learn methods for evaluating the cervical spine to classify the conditions and determine if it is safe to proceed with treatment. Participants will also learn the most effective treatment methods according to the most recent research.

Learning Outcomes 
Upon completion of this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Classify the four main categories of cervical spine pain. 
  • Classify the conditions in which rehabilitative treatment for the cervical spine would be contraindicated.
  • Differentiate the special tests of the cervical spine. 
  • Analyze the evaluative tools clinicians can use to classify cervical spine pain.
  • Analyze the most effective evidence-based treatment options for cervical spine pain to improve functional and occupational limitations.  
  • Categorize the medical treatment options for the cervical spine outside the scope of rehabilitation.  


About the Author/Presenter 
Dr. Ryan Wadas PT, DPT, earned his bachelor's degree in human biology from the University of Kansas and his doctorate degree in physical therapy from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Wadas has over 12 years of outpatient orthopedic PT experience, the majority of which he spent serving as a clinical instructor working with PT and PTA students. He also has 9 years of experience in academics. Dr. Wadas is currently a professor at South University’s PTA program in Tampa, Florida, with 7 years as adjunct faculty at Nova Southeastern University’s DPT program in Clearwater, Florida. Dr. Wadas has advanced training and coursework in spinal manipulation through the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy (AAMT), the McKenzie Method to Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT), vestibular therapy training, Myofascial Practitioner Cupping Certification, and Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA).
