Journal Club October 2026: Pre-habilitation for Total Joint Replacements

50

Course Overview
The journal club podcast presents a structured, evidence-based review of literature and how it relates to current rehabilitation practice. Led by an expert clinician, the podcast highlights a prevalent clinical question and includes background context on the topic's significance to practice. The speaker provides an in-depth review of recent literature, evaluating each for study design, methodology, limitations, and clinical applicability. The podcast concludes with a synthesis of findings into a clear bottom line and practical treatment strategies. This product provides guidance on optimizing outcomes by utilizing recent literature, including how to navigate barriers such as lack of standardization in the field.

Clinical Question:  In adults scheduled for total hip or knee arthroplasty, does structured prehabilitation consisting of exercise and/or education, compared to no prehabilitation or usual care, improve postoperative length of stay, functional outcomes, and pain?
