Course Overview
This five-hour continuing education course provides licensed manual therapists with evidence-based strategies for supporting clients in postsurgical recovery. Participants will explore the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system, advanced manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) techniques, and clinical reasoning for swelling and fibrosis management. The course also emphasizes interprofessional communication, case-based applications, and safe integration of MLD into comprehensive patient care plans.

Learning Outcomes 
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Analyze anatomical structures of the lymphatic system.
  • Analyze lymphatic pathways and lymph flow
  • Assess post-surgical healing and edema and choose the safest immediate action.
  • Assess MLD protocol adaptations for common post-surgical procedures
  • Apply safety considerations and integrate interprofessional collaboration into patient care plans.
  • Distinguish key concepts, complete the final assessment, and identify resources and next steps for hands-on validation.

About the Author/Presenter 
Sharon Sterling, LMT (licensed massage therapist), MLD-C (certified in advanced manual lymphatic drainage management of post-plastic surgery procedures), CLT (certified lymphedema therapist), and CHC (certified health coach), brings more than two decades of experience in the health and wellness sector. She specializes in postsurgical recovery, lymphatic decongestion, and client-centered lymphatic health coaching education. Sharon combines evidence-based manual lymphatic therapy with integrative wellness strategies to equip professionals in delivering safe, effective, and patient-focused care.
