Course Overview
This course is developed to guide healthcare practitioners through effective and ethical mentoring strategies to optimally support their staff, students, assistants, and interns in clinical and professional development. It includes a review of the benefits for both the mentor and mentee, the key modes of mentorship in daily practice, and an overview of the ethical dilemmas and subsequent solutions that supervisors may face. To further support the optimal learning experience for the mentee, course participants will be taught teaching techniques for the different adult learning styles, and evidence-based systems will be shared for systems proven to be effective in the interprofessional practice setting.

Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:

Identify the benefits of mentorship for the mentor and protégé
List the key modes of mentorship for utilization in daily practice
Recognize the common pitfalls and ethical dilemmas of supervision
Identify the licensure and regulatory requirements for students, assistants and interns
List examples of teaching techniques effective with adult learning styles
Indicate the application of supervisory systems for interprofessional practice

About the Author/Presenter
Lisa Milliken is the owner of Milliken Healthcare, where she teaches conferences for multiple organizations, and is Director of Research and Program Development for Regency IHS. She is President of the Texas Speech-Language and Hearing Association and is the ASHA State Advocate for Medicare Policy Representative for Texas. She is also a Distinguished Fellow of Public Policy for the National Academies of Practice and has taught over 450 interprofessional continuing education national/regional courses.
