Utilizing the Eight Dimensions of Wellness in Group Therapy

Course Overview
The purpose of this course is to provide continuing education for behavioral health professionals on the topic of utilizing the eight dimensions of wellness in group therapy. This course will provide a brief history of the Wellness Model, an overview of each dimension, common barriers, and group therapy interventions based on the current evidence-based practice.  

Learning Outcomes 
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Describe the history of the Wellness Model and the Eight Dimensions of Wellness.
  • Explain specific reasons to support the importance of incorporating group therapy and wellness into mental health settings.
  • Explain the intersection between each of the Eight Dimensions of Wellness and Yalom’s 11 Therapeutic Factors of Group Therapy.
  • Identify common barriers with each dimension of wellness.
  • Implement specific group therapy interventions for each dimension of wellness.
     

About the Author/Presenter 
Dawn Davis, LMFT, CGT, AAMFT Approved Supervisor, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, AAMFT Approved Supervisor, and Certified Geek Therapist currently working as a full-time private practice clinician for her practice, Therapy That Gets Me, LLC. She has a background of six years in a community mental health setting as a clinician, clinical supervisor, and assistant director, during which she provided supervision and in-house trainings to clinicians, certified peer specialists, nurse navigators, and behavioral health nurses. Dawn’s experience utilizing the Eight Dimensions of Wellness includes facilitating a weekly Outpatient Health and Wellness group from 2020 through 2023, focused on supporting clients with a combination of chronic health conditions and severe and persistent mental illness through use of the Wellness Model. Dawn’s presenter experience also includes online and in-person continuing education presentations for Geek Therapeutics in 2023 and 2024.
