About the Author/Presenter
Eric Weiner, DVM, a third-generation veterinarian, and I am very proud of it. I grew up in and around veterinary hospitals. As I followed in my grandfather and father’s footsteps, you could say the writing was on the wall, or more like the bottom of my shoes. I took a bit of a detour in college as I originally went to study music education. However, as I worked at a specialty clinic as an ICU assistant during college, my passion for veterinary medicine was reignited. I changed majors and graduated Hofstra University with a B.A. in biology and a double minor in biochemistry and music. I started my vet school career at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts and transferred to Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine after first year and graduated in 2015. In my clinical year, my favorite rotation was whichever one I worked! I had a great experience at the Penn Vet Working Dog Center in Philadelphia, PA. I worked with search and rescue dogs, diabetic alert dogs, police dogs, and even cancer detection dogs. I helped develop a warmup protocol for the working dogs to help prevent the dogs from suffering strains and sprains. 

My experience also includes both small privately owned and large corporately owned clinics before and after veterinary school. I strive for as close to “Ivory Tower” quality of medicine as possible. However, as a general practitioner in the suburbs, using all of the great diagnostic and therapeutic tools available is not always realistic, and referrals are not always viable options. My job is to provide the highest level of care to my patients and do my best to overcome any obstacle, financial or otherwise.
 

Catherine Barnette, DVM, is part of a two-doctor corporate practice that has an emphasis on wellness care, elective surgery, as well as illness and emergency care for canine, feline, and exotic patients. She is able to quickly and efficiently explain medical concepts to her clients in heavy caseload situations. She enjoys mentoring newly graduated veterinarians in medical and surgical care as well as client communication. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and her Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Florida.
