Mechanical Exfoliation/Microdermabrasion
7
About the Course
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive mechanical form of skin resurfacing. The term is intended to indicate dermal abrasion, which takes on a smaller, or less intense, degree. This course will define the role and function of the skin’s layers as they relate to microdermabrasion. In addition, this course will explain the differences between crystal and diamond microdermabrasion equipment and describe the processes associated with microdermabrasion treatments.

Learning objectives
- Understand the role and function of the skin’s layers as they relate to microdermabrasion.
- Describe the roles of the epidermis and stratum corneum.
- Explain the differences between crystal and diamond microdermabrasion equipment.
- Analyze skin conditions using the Fitzpatrick skin classification and the Glogau Wrinkle Scale.
- Comprehend the processes of microdermabrasion treatments (i.e. aspiration and exfoliation).
