Course Overview
Often, leaders are promoted without any formal training and thus may lack the knowledge to address the multitude of issues within the healthcare environment. To be successful in managing the ever-changing environment within the healthcare arena, today’s leaders need to be equipped with a set of core competencies and the ability to communicate effectively, managing conflicts that arise. This course addresses the core competencies and skill sets that healthcare leaders need to be successful. The course provides detailed explanations, tools, examples, and resources to help the learner appreciate, develop, and apply these core competencies and skills in their own practice.

Learning Outcomes 
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Assess how specific contemporary issues in healthcare impact leaders.
  • Analyze the core competencies that healthcare leaders need to be proficient and why.
  • Compare and contrast the stages of conflict and the models of conflict resolution.

About the Author/Presenter 
Shirley Aycock, DNP, RN, is a registered nurse who has spent the majority of her nursing career serving in a variety of leadership roles. Her leadership roles range from clinical operations within acute care facilitates to serving as adjunct nursing faculty at several universities including East Texas Baptist University, LeTourneau University, and University of Texas at Arlington, College of Nursing and Health Innovation. She received her bachelor of science in nursing degree from University of Texas at Arlington, a master of science in nursing administration from University of Texas at Tyler, and a doctorate of nursing practice from Rush University in Chicago, Illinois.
