Dream Work: A Psychoanalytic Perspective 1.5
Course release date: 2/1/2025
Course Overview
More than 100 years ago, Sigmund Freud's pioneering work with dreams revealed a hidden world of unconscious thoughts and wishes. Freud's theories and methods continue to speak to mental health professionals. This course is intended to give clinicians a basic understanding of Freud's theory of dream interpretation, to explain practical techniques for use with patients, and to describe the therapeutic gains obtainable with dream work. It will begin with brief summations of Freud's contribution to the search for dreams' significance and the impact of his development of psychoanalysis. Connections to contemporary dream research are established. Issues surrounding specimens, including Freud's dreams, the clinician's own, and those of patients, are discussed. - Behavioral Addictions 6

Alcohol and Alcohol Use Disorder 4
Course release date: 6/1/2024
Course Overview
No substance, legal or illegal, has a more paradoxical mythology than alcohol. It is undeniably one of the most widely and safely used intoxicants in the world; however, it is also potent and dangerous, both from a psychologic and physiologic viewpoint. Alcohol is currently responsible for more deaths and personal destruction than any other known substance of abuse, with the exception of tobacco. All of this is known with scientific certainty. Alcohol is legal, easily obtained, and supported by a multi-billion-dollar worldwide industry. Alcohol consumption reduces social inhibitions and produces pleasure and a sense of well-being. It also can have some rather impressive positive medical effects, such as a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease. This course will include core competencies related to alcohol use and abuse as well as knowledge, assessment, and treatment-based competencies. - Anxiety Disorders 6.5

Mindfulness-Based Interventions for Clinical Care 2
Course release date: 1/23/2026
Course Overview
Mindfulness, considered the heart of Buddhist meditation, is a practice that allows people to develop present-moment awareness both on meditation cushions and in daily life. Other spiritual traditions, including Christianity, also contain practices that foster mindful living and engagement. Clinical uses of mindfulness have piqued the interest of the clinical professions in the last 25 years, with more secular applications becoming popular. In this course, Dr. Jamie Marich, a teacher of mindfulness and spiritual practices and trauma specialist, guides clinicians through the fundamentals of mindful practice. Special attention is paid to practicing and implementing practical applications of skills. This is not a course where you will be bogged down by slide after slide of research and theory. You will gain no fewer than 10 skills in the areas of grounding, stabilization, body awareness, breath work, self-soothing, and crisis management that you can take back to your clinical setting tomorrow. Learn how to adapt techniques to serve clients who traditionally “resist†affect regulation and stabilization strategies. Additionally, you will not be asked to reinvent the wheel of your existing clinical practice; rather, you will be shown how to build on what you already know. Become more trauma-informed in your clinical practice through work with simple, effective mindfulness-informed approaches. -
Intercultural Competence and Patient-Centered Care 3
Course release date: 10/1/2023
Course Overview
Culture serves as a lens through which patients and practitioners filter their experiences and perceptions. Patients will bring their unique life stories and concerns to the practitioner, and their cultural values and belief systems will inevitably shape how the problem is defined and their beliefs about what is effective in solving the problem. However, the cultural backgrounds and values of patients are not necessarily scripts that define behavior, and when practitioners view culture as a strength and not a pathology, practitioners will be able to more effectively join with patients to mobilize change. The purpose of this course is to provide members of the interprofessional healthcare team with the knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary to provide culturally competent and responsive care to all patients.Â
