Here's what you need to renew your Minnesota Dental license

Mandatory Subjects:

  • Infection control
    • An infection control course is mandatory for each licensee to maintain licensure. The course must primarily address patient safety and health issues as referenced in part 3100.6300 and chapter 6950.

Each licensee must also complete at least two courses out of the following list for each initial or biennial cycle: 

  • Record keeping
  • Ethics
  • Management of medical emergencies
  • Patient communications
  • Diagnosis and treatment planning
  • HIPAA

NEW! DEA MATE ACT:
Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required to complete 8 hours of one-time training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.


Mandatory Subjects:

  • Infection control
    • An infection control course is mandatory for each licensee to maintain licensure. The course must primarily address patient safety and health issues as referenced in part 3100.6300 and chapter 6950.

Each licensee must also complete at least two courses out of the following list for each initial or biennial cycle: 

  • Record keeping
  • Ethics
  • Management of medical emergencies
  • Patient communications
  • Diagnosis and treatment planning
  • HIPAA
     

Requirement for General Anesthesia or Sedation Certificate-holders:

  • A dentist who has a general anesthesia or moderate sedation certificate must complete 15 professional development credits in any of the following areas (the 15 hours can be included in the 50 hours required for renewal of the dental license if a qualifying activity):
    • Moderate sedation or general anesthesia and deep sedation
    • Medications and physical evaluation
    • Anesthesia emergencies and complications
    • Monitoring equipment and monitoring during anesthesia
    • Pharmacology of anesthetic drugs
    • Infection control related to anesthesia procedures
    • Simulation courses involving anesthesia emergencies
