Course Overview
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a debilitating psychiatric illness affecting approximately 4% to 12% of the population. Characterized by persistent problems with distractibility, impulsivity, and/or hyperactivity, ADHD has a significant effect on day-to-day functioning and quality of life. Unfortunately, ADHD often goes unrecognized. Patients may hesitate to disclose their symptoms, and physicians unfamiliar with this disorder may confuse its manifestations with other psychiatric illnesses. Common comorbidities can further cloud the diagnosis. This course will cover the epidemiology, diagnostic criteria, pathophysiology, and differential diagnosis of ADHD. It will review the first-line treatments, recommended duration of therapy, and options for patients who do not respond to initial therapy. Finally, it will address the roles of other therapeutic options, such as behavioral therapy. -
Genital Mycoplasma Infections: Unrecognized STIs 4

Course Overview
Genital mycoplasma infections are a significant source of morbidity for sexual partners. Genital mycoplasma species include: Ureaplasma parvum, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Mycoplasma hominis, and Mycoplasma genitalium. These organisms can cause pelvic inflammatory infections, recurrent bacterial vaginitis, and recurrent urinary tract infections. Some have been linked to pregnancy complications, neonatal infections, and infertility. In men, they most often present as nongonococcal urethritis and can lead to orchitis. One species, M. genitalium, was labeled a sexually transmitted infection (STI) in 2015 by the CDC. Despite these risks and the STI label, many providers have never heard of genital mycoplasmas and, if they have, discount their morbidity. When recognized (mostly in men) rarely is their partner treated, leading to both being re-infected. Recognizing and treating these infections would relieve a significant amount of human suffering. This presentation will cover how to recognize, identify, diagnose, and treat mycoplasma infections. -
Prediabetes: An Opportunity to Prevent Diabetes 15

Course Overview
Prediabetes is a condition that affects more than one-third of the adult population in the United States. As a major risk factor for diabetes and cardiovascular disease, its potential toll on the healthcare system and on the individual is significant. Also known as "glucose intolerance," prediabetes is diagnosed when the blood glucose is higher than normal but does not meet the diagnostic criteria for diabetes. Results from the Diabetes Prevention Program showed that the onset of diabetes could be delayed or prevented with lifestyle interventions in subjects with glucose intolerance who were also overweight and sedentary. This course will describe the pathophysiology and risks associated with prediabetes and diabetes. It will also discuss the lifestyle interventions recommended by the Diabetes Prevention Program. Because lifestyle change can be challenging, the course will provide strategies for motivating and helping patients making these changes.
