Kentucky Nursing CE Requirements & License Renewal

Mandatory Subjects:

• None

One-time Requirements:

• 3 hours – Domestic Violence 
• 1.5 hours – Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma (Shaken Baby Syndrome), within 3 years of initial licensure if you did not complete a KY Nursing Program after 12/2011
• 2 hours – Suicide Prevention, within 3 years of initial licensure if you did not complete a KY Nursing Program after 08/2025
• NEW! 1 hour – Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias, Board-approved course, completed by 10/31/2027 for nurses holding an active license on 7/15/2024 and within 3 years of licensure for those who obtain licensure after 7/15/2024.

NEW! DEA MATE ACT:
Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required to complete 8 hours of one-time training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.

Mandatory Subjects:

• 5 hours – Pharmacology (3 of the 5 hours must be in pain management or addiction disorders for those APRNs registered with the DEA and who have a PDMP/KASPER account)
