NEW! DEA MATE ACT:
Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required to complete 8 hours of one-time training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.

APNs must maintain current national certification. If not nationally certified, must have been initially licensed prior to July 1, 2005 and must complete 60 contact hours of CE in specialty area of practice or 400 hours of active nursing practice as an APRN during the last 2 years.

Additional requirements for APNs with prescriptive authority:

  • Responsible prescribing of controlled substances or treatment of substance abuse disorders - 3 contact hours every 2-year renewal period.
