Sleep Strategies to Enhance Performance and Outcomes in Athletes
About the Course
Sleep has many physiological, occupational, and cognitive functions that may be important to all individuals. Detrimental effects due to sleep deprivation can lead to decline in aerobic and anaerobic processes, while influencing other factors such as fatigue and recovery. Patients may encounter many obstacles to normal sleeping patterns including travel, irregular schedules, foreign environments, pain, and high levels of anxiety. Due to these obstacles and significant implications, health care professionals would benefit from developing a strong foundation regarding sleep habits to educate patients and clients on proper sleep habits at various levels of competition.
The course instructor will provide an overarching review of the literature as it pertains to sleep and the impact it has on recovery and achieved of desired patient outcomes. The participants will be able to assess their own current practice and make immediate recommendations to patients and clients regarding sleep habits to enhance performance and outcomes within their unique setting.
