A Guide to Using AI to Enhance Clinical Service Delivery
Course Overview
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a complex and evolving tool that has the potential to reduce administrative demands, increase productivity and enhance quality of assessment and treatment across clinical settings and populations. The complexity of the technology and unique ways of interacting with AI has led to many rehabilitation professionals feeling overwhelmed and unsure of how to incorporate it into their clinical practice. This presentation will introduce new users to ways to leverage potential benefits and integrate AI into clinical workflow. Strategies for maximizing output and application examples will give the most novice user confidence to get started utilizing this technology. Limitations, ethical considerations and bias potential will be addressed.
Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:
- Define key terms related to AI and identify the primary concepts in underpinning AI technology
- Recognize how AI can impact administrative tasks and patient occupational performance and outcomes in rehabilitation practice
- Choose three ways to maximize output from Artificial Intelligence programs
- Identify ethical considerations surrounding the use of Artificial Intelligence in clinical practice
- Recognize three potential applications of Artificial Intelligence in clinical practice
About the Author/Presenter
Jennifer Meyer, M.S., CCC-SLP, is the Director of Clinical Education at the University of Oregon with a special interest in technology, gender affirming care, and justice equity, diversity, and inclusion work. Jennifer has presented locally, regionally and nationally on a range of topics focused on clinical practice and clinical education.
