Course Overview

This course is intended for all healthcare professionals who work with recreational athletes. The course examines the effects of same session and day cardiovascular endurance training and strength training on muscle strength and power outcomes. Learn how to program the frequency, mode, volume, intensity, and duration of cardiovascular endurance training sessions to protect muscle strength and power development. The course includes sample workouts and programs for immediate use. 

Learning Outcomes 
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Define interference theory and recognize how it relates to concurrent training.  
  • Identify the effects of concurrent cardiovascular training on strength development in athletes. 
  • Produce effective concurrent training sessions and long-term programs for strength gains. 
  • Apply frequency, duration, mode, volume, and intensity of training to design cardiovascular training sessions and programs that maximize strength gains. 

About the Author/Presenter 

Amy Ashmore holds a PhD in Kinesiology from the University of Texas at Austin. She is the author of Timing Resistance Training and over 40 professional development courses for physical therapists, strength & conditioning coaches, and athletic trainers. Amy is former Florida State University faculty. Currently, she is a continuing education provider located in Las Vegas, Nevada.
