About the Course
This course reviews the background, scope, transmissions, and complications of COVID-19 especially as it relates to older adult populations. It also introduces strategies for assessing and implementing treatment interventions designed for clients with compromised lung function and other remaining physical and cognitive symptoms across interprofessional practice settings.
Furthermore, this course expounds on the persistent symptoms and deficits the client experiences following their diagnosis and recovery from COVID-19. Finally, this course reviews reimbursement and documentation principles to ensure efficacy in this area by healthcare providers.

Learning Outcomes
  • Identify the etiologies, transmission, and complications of COVID-19.
  • Recognize how to best assess clients from recovering from COVID-19, utilizing an interprofessional approach.
  • Describe how to best assess clients recovering from COVID-19, utilizing an interprofessional approach.
  • Identify multidisciplinary interventions for clients living with, or recently recovering from COVID-19.
  • Describe persistent symptoms and deficits that the client may experience following their diagnosis and recovery from COVID-19.
  • Explain the associated interprofessional documentation principles.
 About the Author
Lisa Young Milliken, MA, CCC, FNAP, CDP has served as a clinician, manager, vice president, consultant, compliance director and education director. She has lectured at the state and national level with over 300 professional education courses on multiple topics of importance to the healthcare professional. She is a Certified Dementia Practitioner, and mentors interprofessional practitioners in multiple settings, to include clinics, skilled nursing facilty and home health settings. She also volunteers with community programs in the Houston area to support caregivers of people with dementia. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association ASHA), where she serves as a State Advocate for Medicare Policy for Texas. She also serves on numerous committees for the Texas Speech-Language and Hearing Association and is Vice President of Professional services for this organization. She is a Distinguished Fellow of Public Policy for the National Academies of Practice where she is the Co-chair of Forum Planning Committee and has co-chaired of the Education/Training and Practice Partnerships. She is a prior board president of the Louisiana Speech-Language and Hearing Association and is an alumnus of the ASHA Council of State Association Presidents.
