About the Course
This course will review all elements of an episode of care, focusing on providing and integrating skilled, reasonable, and medically necessary services into the evaluation, progress notes, daily notes, and the discharge summary. Strategies for incorporating standardized testing, caregiver training, and the use of evidence-based treatment will be discussed to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.

Learning Outcomes
  • Identify Medicare requirements for skilled, reasonable, and medically necessary therapy services.
  • Identify and describe key features of effective documentation for the evaluation, progress notes, daily notes, and the discharge summary.
  • Identify evidence-based practice and appraise their own treatment and documentation for skill.
  • Recognize the difference between maintenance and rehabilitative treatment and understand the manner in which documentation practice varies according to the treatment plan type.

About the Author
Amy McDermott, M.S., CCC-SLP, RAC-CT is a Speech-Language Pathologist with over 20 years of experience across a variety of clinical settings. She currently serves as a Clinical Reimbursement Specialist for QRM where she is involved in quality improvement initiatives, medical review, and clinical education. She is versed in regulatory compliance requirements and is a certified resident assessment coordinator. Ms. McDermott received her Bachelor and Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is a member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association and AANAC.
