Renewal CE Requirements

Continuing Competency Units
Hawaii physical therapists must complete 24 CCUs related to the professional practice of physical therapy or patient/client management, plus 2 CCUs in ethics, laws, and rules (jurisprudence) covering Hawaii's laws and rules governing the practice of physical therapy (Board-approved course required), plus 4 CCUs in life support for health care professionals (comparable to or more advanced than a standard course) — every renewal period.

Mandatory CE Topics

Ethics, Laws, and Rules
Hawaii physical therapists must complete 2 hours in ethics, laws, and rules through a Board-approved course every renewal period.

Basic Life Support
Hawaii physical therapists must complete 4 hours in Basic Life Support every renewal period.

Complete this requirement through a certified BLS provider (e.g., American Heart Association, American Red Cross).

1. At least twenty-four (24) CCUs in subjects related to either: a. The professional practice of physical therapy (which includes but is not limited to professional accountability, professional behavior, and professional development); or b. Patient/client management (which includes but is not limited to examination, evaluation, diagnosis, and prognosis; plan of care; implementation; education; and discharge); and 2. Two (2) CCUs in ethics, laws, and rules (jurisprudence), or some combination thereof (Please note: the two (2) CCUs must cover Hawaii's laws and rules governing the practice of physical therapy.
