Important Updates
Online CE Cap Removed / APTATN Approval Required
Effective December 29, 2025, Tennessee removed the previous 10-hour cap on online CE (online CE is now unlimited) but will only accept continuing education — including all Ethics and Jurisprudence coursework — approved by the Tennessee Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTATN). The 30-hour/24-month total and the 20-hour Class I minimum (with up to 10 hours of Class II) are unchanged.
Mandatory CE Topics
Ethics
Tennessee PTs must complete 2 hours of ethics every renewal period, approved by APTATN.
Approved course: Ethics, Laws, & Rules for Tennessee Physical Therapists & Physical Therapist Assistants, 4th Edition
Jurisprudence
Tennessee PTs must complete 2 hours of jurisprudence every renewal period, approved by APTATN. This is a separate 2-hour requirement from Ethics above — Elite's combined "Ethics, Laws, & Rules" course does not also satisfy this line.
Note: Tennessee's jurisprudence requirement is fulfilled through material provided directly by APTATN/the Board, not through an Elite course. Complete this requirement directly through APTATN.
Renewal CE Requirements
Class I / Class II Breakdown
Tennessee PTs must complete a minimum of 20 Class I hours, with a maximum of 10 Class II hours; all required hours may be completed using Class I courses.
