Renewal CE Requirements

Osteopathic Physicians
Arizona DOs must complete 40 hours of Board-approved CME every 2 years, including at least 24 hours of AOA Category 1-A; the remaining 16 hours may be AMA PRA Category 1.

Elite Learning courses are considered AOA Category 2-B and AMA PRA Category 1.

Practice-Based or Conditional Requirements

Opioid and Controlled Substance Prescribing CE
Arizona DOs who are authorized to prescribe Schedule II controlled substances, or who hold a valid DEA number or authorization to dispense controlled substances, must complete a minimum of 3 hours of CE related to opioids, substance use disorder, or addiction every 2 years.

Course option: Responsible and Effective Opioid Prescribing

DEA-registered practitioners, except those who are solely veterinarians, must complete an 8-hour training on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. This applies one time to DEA registrations or renewals submitted on or after June 27, 2023.
