Medical Doctors and Osteopathic Physicians
Arkansas MDs and DOs must complete 20 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 CME every renewal period, with at least 10 hours in the subject area of the physician's primary practice.
Mandatory CE Topics
Opioid and Benzodiazepine Prescribing
Arkansas MDs and DOs must complete 1 hour of prescribing education relating to opioids and benzodiazepines as part of their regular CE hours every renewal period.

Prescriber Training
Licensees with prescriptive authority must complete 3 hours of prescribing education covering Board regulations and laws, record keeping, and maintaining safe professional boundaries, within the first 2 years of licensure, one time.

Federal Requirements
DEA MATE Act Requirement
DEA-registered practitioners, except those who are solely veterinarians, must complete an 8-hour training on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. This applies one time to DEA registrations or renewals submitted on or after June 27, 2023.
