Implicit Bias Awareness
Beginning January 1, 2023, Illinois MDs and DOs must complete 1 hour on implicit bias awareness every renewal period.

Sexual Harassment Prevention
MDs and DOs must complete 1 hour on sexual harassment prevention every renewal period.

Approved course: Sexual Harassment Prevention: The Illinois Requirement

Cultural Competency
Beginning with renewals on or after January 1, 2025, MDs and DOs must complete 1 hour on cultural competency once every 6 years (may be completed more often, counting toward the overall renewal hour requirement).

Practice-Based or Conditional Requirements

Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia CE
Beginning January 1, 2023, MDs and DOs who provide health care services to patients age 26 and older must complete 1 hour on the diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias once every 6 years.

Course option: Alzheimer Disease

Controlled Substance Prescribing
Beginning with renewals on or after January 1, 2025, licensees who prescribe controlled substances must complete 3 hours on safe opioid prescribing practices every renewal period.

Course option: Optimizing Opioid Safety and Efficacy

Federal Requirements

DEA MATE Act Requirement
DEA-registered practitioners, except those who are solely veterinarians, must complete an 8-hour training on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. This applies one time to DEA registrations or renewals submitted on or after June 27, 2023.

Course option: Substance Use Disorders: A DEA Requirement
