Here's what you need to renew your Kentucky Physician license

NEW! DEA MATE ACT:
Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required to complete 8 hours of one-time training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.

Mandatory Subjects:

3 hours - Domestic Violence (within 3 years of the date of initial licensure)

4.5 hours -  Board approved Category I CME relating to the use of KASPER, Pain Management, Addiction Disorders, or a combination of two or more those subjects (licensees authorized to prescribe or dispense controlled substances)

1 hour - Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma (pediatricians, radiologists, family practitioners, and emergency medicine and urgent care physicians must complete within 5 years of the date of initial licensure)
 
12 hours - Category I CME relating to Addiction Medicine (DEA-licensed prescriber of Bu-prenorphine-Mono-Product or Buprenorphine-Combined-with-Naloxone)

1 hours - HIV/AIDS (within first two (2) years of initial licensure)

1.5 hour - Recognition and Prevention of Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma (board approved course within first two (2) years of licensure)

7.5 hours -  Controlled Substance Diversion, Pain Management, Addiction Disorders, use of the electronic system for monitoring controlled substances established in KRS 218A.202, or any combination  of two (2) or more of these subjects (licensees authorized to prescribe and administer Schedule III, IV, or V controlled substances)
 
12 hours - Addiction Medicine (authorized to prescribe or administer Buprenorphine-Mono-Product or Buprenorphine-Combined-with-Naloxone) 

 

Mandatory Subjects:
During the first two (2) years of licensure or prior to the first licensure renewal:
 a. One (1) continuing education course on the human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome; and
 b. One and one-half (1.5) hours of continuing education in the prevention and recognition of pediatric abusive head trauma, as defined in KRS 620.020; and
