NEW! DEA MATE ACT:
Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required to complete 8 hours of one-time training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.

Mandatory Subjects:
Physicians seeking to renew their license for the first time must have attended a Board sponsored Orientation.
 
Practitioners with a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) license have a one-time requirement of at least 3 hours of Board-approved continuing education on the best practices for the prescribing of CDS, drug diversion training, appropriate treatment for addiction, and the treatment of chronic pain.

As per legislation passed in 2017, all practitioners with a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) license in Louisiana are now required to complete at least 3 hours of Board approved continuing medical education (CME) that includes ALL 4 of the below topics. This course is a once in a lifetime requirement under current law. This 3 hour requirement will be considered a part of, and not in addition to, the prescriber’s annual CME requirement.
