Licensees serving an adult population must complete training on the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with cognitive impairments including, but not limited to, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Applicants and licensees applying for licensure from January 1, 2020 through January 1, 2021, are granted an administrative waiver of the requirement for this licensing cycle. All licensees must complete the required course by November 6, 2022.
This is a list of the Board’s continuing requirements that must be taken in each licensing cycle:
3 credits Opioids and Pain Management
10 credits Risk Management Study
2 credits/chapter Reading the Board’s Regulations, 243 CMR 1.00-5.00

Mandatory Subjects:
Physician assistants must complete 3 hours of Category 1 credit CME every two years on the prescribing of opioid medication as required by Board Rule Chapter 21 “Use of Controlled Substances for Treatment of Pain.”
Additional information required for renewal:
- All licensees are required to complete training and education on the issue of domestic violence and sexual violence.
