NEW! DEA MATE ACT:
Beginning with DEA initial registrations or renewals starting June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (with the exception of DVM-only license holders) are required to complete 8 hours of one-time training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.

Mandatory Subjects:

  • 2 hours - Ethics, pain management or addiction care (even years only)
  • 2 hours - Misuse and abuse of controlled substances, the prescribing of opioids or addiction
  • 2 hours - Evidence-based suicide prevention and awareness within TWO years of licensure; THEN two (2) hours completed every FOUR (4) years thereafter
  • 2 hours - Cultural competency and diversity, equity and inclusion (for Psychiatrists and PAs who practice under the supervision of a psychiatrist)

  • 2 hours - Suicide Detection, Intervention and Prevention (every 4 years)

Additional Requirements for Renewal:

  • First biennial required hours vary depending on initial licensing date. If licensed within first six months of the biennial period, all 40 hours are required. Second six months of the biennial period, 30 hours. Third six months of biennial period, 20 hours. Fourth six months of biennial period, 10 hours. All mandatory subject requirements must be met.
