One-Time Requirements

Child Abuse Identification and Reporting
MDs, DOs, and PAs must complete 2 hours in child abuse identification and reporting, one time.
As of 2025, the mandated child abuse training must include content related to the impact of intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, adverse childhood experiences and trauma, implicit bias, and the identification of child abuse in a virtual setting.

Practice-Based or Conditional Requirements

Pain Management, Palliative Care, and Addiction (Prescribers)
MD, DO, and PA prescribers holding an active DEA registration who renew on or after July 1, 2017, must complete 3 hours in pain management, palliative care, and addiction, including New York-specific content, every 3 years.

Approved course: Responsible and Effective Opioid Prescribing

DEA-registered practitioners, except those who are solely veterinarians, must complete an 8-hour training on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. This applies one time to DEA registrations or renewals submitted on or after June 27, 2023.
