MDs, DOs, and PAs must complete 2 hours in child abuse identification and reporting, one time; the deadline to complete updated content is April 1, 2025, for current licensees.

Practice-Based or Conditional Requirements
Pain Management, Palliative Care, and Addiction (Prescribers)
MD, DO, and PA prescribers holding an active DEA registration who renew on or after July 1, 2017, must complete 3 hours in pain management, palliative care, and addiction, including New York-specific content, every 3 years.

Federal Requirements
DEA MATE Act Requirement
DEA-registered practitioners, except those who are solely veterinarians, must complete an 8-hour training on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. This applies one time to DEA registrations or renewals submitted on or after June 27, 2023.
