Renewal CE Requirements

Osteopathic Physicians
Vermont DOs must complete 30 hours every renewal period, including 12 hours related to the DO's scope of practice.

Practice-Based or Conditional Requirements

Controlled Substances Prescribing
DOs with a DEA registration who prescribe or dispense controlled substances must complete 2 hours of Category 1 CME every renewal period on controlled substances prescribing, covering the same topics required of MDs (abuse/diversion prevention, safe storage/disposal, VT Prescription Monitoring System use, risk assessment, non-opioid alternatives, and tapering/cessation).

Course option: Responsible and Effective Opioid Prescribing

DEA-registered practitioners, except those who are solely veterinarians, must complete an 8-hour training on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. This applies one time to DEA registrations or renewals submitted on or after June 27, 2023.
