Beauty Trends for 2017: Industry Spotlight

beauty trends

With 2016 more than half way over, it’s time to look ahead and see what’s on the horizon for 2017. The beauty and spa industry is constantly changing and growing that it’s important to keep up with the latest beauty trends.

All of these beauty trends have actually been around before, but are making a huge come back in 2017.

Lashes. You can never have enough! Eyelash extensions have been trending for the last few years. The most popular being: classic, volume extensions, and even Russian volume extensions. However, there is still a place in the market for a simpler way of making those lashes fabulous.  In comes “Lash Lift.” This is essentially a long-lasting eyelash curler for your lashes. Unfortunately, you would still need to wear mascara, but it dramatically curls your natural lashes for 8 weeks.  If you’re looking for any tips or tricks, Instagram is a great place for some lash inspiration!

Brows. Bushy brows are still in and not going anywhere for 2017! Brows have been a huge trend in 2016 and the fuller the better. There are a few treatments that will help your brows if you’re in the “over plucked/ slim-jim” category. With the education offered to estheticians—and the sheer marketing of it—micro-blading will become increasingly more popular. Micro-blading is the process of creating hair-like strokes using a blade and semi-permanent ink. This can achieve a very natural look and create a full brow shape. See our Brow Trends post for more ideas.

Needles. Micro-needling and derma-rollers have been around for quite some time, but there are now new advances in these treatments. The FDA just approved a radio-frequency micro-needling device, which can help scarring, reduce secretion of oils, and minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Depending on the state you live in there are different regulations around micro-needling, but most estheticians can do a superficial depth without a doctor present. However, micro-needling on its own without the radio-frequency is a very effective treatment for your clients.

If you are interested in adding any of these specialized services to your portfolio, make sure you check with your states regulations on these specific services and what they require. Also, please feel free to explore Elite’s other articles about cosmetology!
