Organization planning year-long acknowledgement of history for their centennial anniversary
As challenging as 2020 was for most everyone, the American Physical Therapy Association endeavors to make 2021 a year to remember for all the right reasons. For APTA, their primary motivation is the 100-year, or centennial, anniversary of their birth as a member association.
APTA hopes to both celebrate its proud history of serving its community of physical therapy professionals and their clients, while building a strong foundation into the next 100 years as a leader in the rehabilitative field. The Association invites members to “engage, celebrate, and serve, as we raise awareness about our great profession and enshrine a proud legacy for future generations,” reads an item on the group’s website.
Centennial celebration events get started almost immediately in the new year with the APTA Founders’ Day Celebration on January 15, a free live stream event on the organization’s social media channels. That weekend will see the 51st Mary McMillan lecture by Stuart Binder-Macleod, PT, PhD, FAPTA.
This event will be $99, or free to registrants of the 2021 Combined Sections Meeting, which has been converted into a virtual event in late February.
Come fall, hopefully public health conditions will allow for the Centennial Gala to take place in our nation’s capital. APTA will converge on Washington, D.C. between September 10-13 for the Gala, to be held at the historical Washington National Cathedral, followed by the House of Delegates meeting on September 11-12, and culminating in Monday, September 13’s Future of Physical Therapy Summit. Additional programming is still to be announced.
A Centennial Lecture Series will traverse the entirety of 2021, starting in March. More details are available on APTA’s website, along with suggestions for how each physical therapist and PTA can be a part of the 2021 Centennial celebration.
