About the Course
The purpose of this course is to introduce and explain common sleep disorders and the methods of treatment options for these various sleep disorders.

Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Explain the most common sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
  • List the indications and the contraindications for home positive airway pressure (PAP).
  • Identify safety precaution for home PAP
  • Explain how the ramp settings operates. 
  • Summarize the benefits of C-Flex with CPAP
  • Describe how to utilize Auto-CPAP
  • Explain how the memory card is beneficial when used with PAP machines.

About the Author
Dr. Heather O’Connell has been a respiratory therapist for 15 years. She has worked in many different areas of our field such as critical care and throughout the various other areas in our field. Dr. O’Connell earned her Associate in Science from Edison State College, her Bachelor’s in Cardiopulmonary Sciences from the University of Central Florida, and her master’s from Southern New Hampshire in Healthcare Administration. She completed her Doctorate in Healthcare Administration from Walden University in 2022. Dr. O’Connell worked as a clinical preceptor from 2010 to 2015, when she became a full-time Director of Clinical Education for Respiratory Care at her local college. She has taught in various classes including Assessment, Mechanical Ventilation, and Therapeutics. Dr. O’Connell written continuing education courses for Colibri Healthcare and authored a chapter in Lintz: Comprehensive Respiratory Disease.  


How to Receive Credit 

  • Read the entire course online or in print which requires a 1-hour commitment of time. 
  • After completion of the course, complete the final examination.  A passing grade of 75% is required. Test questions link content to learning outcomes as a method to enhance individualized learning and material retention. 
    Note to Nursing professionals: Depending on your state requirements, you will be asked to either affirm that you have completed the course, or you will be required to complete the Post-test included in the course.
  • Provide required personal information and payment information.
  • Complete the mandatory course evaluation.
