Crisis Management for Healthcare Professionals


About the Course
This course is designed to meet the one-hour requirement for behavioral health professionals in crisis management and disaster response. It addresses crisis/disaster planning, assessment, communication skills, interventions, resources, and strategies for crisis prevention. Evidence based models to de-escalate a crisis situation and assist clients to cope with stress and trauma are presented. Crisis situations addressed in this course include suicidal and homicidal ideation, abuse/neglect, and domestic/intimate partner violence.  Emphasis is placed on current research and evidence-based models of crisis management.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to: 

  • Identify and define risk and protective factors that correlate with abuse/neglect, intimate partner violence, and suicidal and/or homicidal ideation.
  • Select and apply assessment strategies to develop safety plans and interventions to prevent violence toward self and others.
  • Apply crisis management components from the 2024 Strategy for Suicide Prevention and National Guidelines for Behavioral Health Crisis Care: A Best Practice Toolkit for recovery-oriented care.

About the Author/Presenter
Deborah E. Converse is a career educator with a B.A. in Psychology, M.A. in Emotional Disorders, and National Board Certification as an Exceptional Needs Specialist Birth-21+. She also served as an evaluator for the National Board and has authored numerous educational training and recertification courses implemented nationally.  

How to Receive Credit 

  • Read the entire course online or in print which requires a 2-hour commitment of time. 
  • After completion of the course, complete the final examination.  A passing grade of 75% is required. Test questions link content to learning outcomes as a method to enhance individualized learning and material retention. 
  • Provide required personal information and payment information.
