Social Media and Mental Health

18

Course Overview
This course is intended for all mental healthcare professionals who work with clients using social media. There are many benefits of social media but also risks to those who are vulnerable to the effects of social media. With the growing number of people who use social media, the question is not that social media is a negative force for mental health but rather under what circumstances and for whom do these negative outcomes occur? In this continuing education training, clinicians will learn how social media helps those with mental illness, the risk of social media use, and the ramifications of social media use concerning young people’s brains.

Learning Outcomes
Upon the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Identify the benefits of social media usage for mental health.
  • Illustrate how adolescents’ mental health is vulnerable to social media use.
