Here's what you need to renew your Tennessee Behavioral Health : Social Worker license

Hours Required:
  • L.B.S.W. - 9 hours each calendar year (3 in professional ethics, 4 in SW, 2 in either ethics or SW)
  • L.M.S.W. - 12 hours each calendar year (3 in professional ethics, 7 in SW, 2 in either ethics or SW)
  • L.A.P.S.W. & L.C.S.W. - 15 hours each calendar year (3 in professional ethics, 10 in SW, 2 in either ethics or SW)

Mandatory Subjects:
3 hours of Ethics per calendar year
1 hour specific to
Tennessee Code Annotated §§ 63-23-101, et seq., and the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Board of Social Worker Licensure  per 2 year renewal period
2 hours of Suicide Prevention (once every 4 years)

Online Limitations

A maximum of two-thirds (?) of a licensee’s credit hours may be earned for multi-media courses per two (2) year continuing education period.
