Course release date: 7/10/2023About the CourseThis basic-level course will provide information specific to the state of Texas on ethical counseling practice. Topics will include state and federal legal guidelines, national association codes of ethics, issues of ethical concern in counseling, decision-making models, and guidelines to promote ethical practice. This course meets the requirements listed in the Texas Administrative Code, referred to as TAC, for the six-hour continuing education requirement in ethics for counseling practice. TAC including the Occupational Code, Counseling and Therapy Acts, the Texas Family Code, and HIPAA regulations will be reviewed.

Cocaine Use Disorder 2

Course Overview
Although cocaine has been a drug of abuse for decades, research on the treatment of cocaine use disorder was delayed until the later part of the 20th century. The introduction and widespread use of crack cocaine in the 1980s, the severity of the addiction, and comorbid problems prompted the scientific community to investigate treatment options. Topics covered in this review include the history and demographics of the current cocaine epidemic; risk factors, background characteristics and comorbid conditions of persons who abuse cocaine; the biologic and behavioral characteristics of cocaine addiction; structural and functional changes to the brain caused by chronic stimulant abuse; and treatment options and their effectiveness. Also covered are the highly-relevant subjects of protracted withdrawal, psychoses, craving, and aggressive and violent behavior and their management. -
Human Trafficking and Exploitation: The Texas Requirement 1

Course Overview
Today, some label human trafficking as a form of "modern day slavery," and frequently, human trafficking has been linked to sex work and prostitution, although there are other forms of trafficking, such as forced labor and domestic work. Human trafficking can involve women, men, and children. Its victims experience a host of psychological problems, including post-traumatic stress, helplessness, and depression, due to the physical, sexual, and psychological abuse they have experienced. This course encompasses a basic overview of human trafficking. The course will attempt to provide practitioners with a glimpse of the realities of human trafficking victims' lives and the physical, psychological, social, and sexual abuse they experience. Specific interventions and responses are covered, including mental health, social services, educational, prevention, and legal efforts.
