What do I need to renew my LPN license in Ohio?
LPNs licensed Ohio nurses must complete twenty-four (24) contact hours of continuing education every 2 years.
- At least one (1) of the required contact hours must be related to Chapter 4723 of the Ohio nurse practice code and rules (Category A).
- Category A is CE directly related to the Ohio Nurse Practice Act and the administrative rules of the Ohio Board of Nursing. To qualify as Category A, the CE must be approved by an Ohio Board of Nursing (OBN) approver or offered by an OBN approved provider unit headquartered in the state of Ohio. Rule 4723-14-01(E), OAC.
- For LPNs, the license renewal period opens July 1st in the even year. The fee is $65.00. On September 16th, the fee increases to $115.
- License renewal deadline: October 31, 2024
What do I need to renew my RN license in Ohio?

APRNs in Ohio must complete twenty-four (24) hours of CE for their RN license and an additional 24 hours for their APRN license.
- At least one (1) of the required contact hours must be related to The Ohio Nurse Practice Act and administrative rules of the Ohio Board of Nursing (Category A).
- Category A is CE directly related to the Ohio Nurse Practice Act and the administrative rules of the Ohio Board of Nursing. To qualify as Category A, an Ohio Board of Nursing (OBN) approver must approve the CE. An OBN approved provider unit headquartered in the state of Ohio may also offer CE. Rule 4723-14-01(E), OAC.
- The 24 hours for your APRN license must include 12 hours of CE in advanced pharmacology (Section 4723.24 (C), ORC)
- The contact hours of CE completed for APRN national certification may be used as the required hours for RN licensure if the hours meet the CE requirements specified in Chapter 4723-14, OAC (Section 4723.24 (C), ORC).
- The license renewal period opens July 1st in the odd year. The renewal fee is $135.00. On September 16th, the fee increases to $185.
- License renewal deadline: October 31, 2025
