Sports related injuries happen every day; from minor sprains and strains to more serious injuries that require interventions ranging from operative to non-operative treatments. The American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine states that roughly 150,000 ACL injuries occur in the United States yearly, which accounts for over $500 million in health care related costs.  Having a strong understanding of how to successfully rehab complex knee injuries to the ACL, Meniscus and other structures will improve patient outcomes and their adherence rehabilitation.

This 1-day course will focus on common complex knee injuries afflicting patients of all ages from adolescents to adulthood; and all skill levels from active individuals, to amateur and professional athletes.  Through a combination of lectures and hands-on labs we will review examination techniques and treatment plans, from initial injury to return to play, led by specific patient examples and case reports.  During this lab intensive course, the attendee will learn new and exciting strategies to rehab the lower quarter both in patients who are attempting to prevent surgery and patients who are being treated post operatively.  At the end of this seminar, the attendee will feel confident treating a wide range of knee injuries and be competent in proper progressions of range of motion, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and return to play criteria.

Objectives

  1. Identify the location and function of major knee anatomy including but not limited to ligamentous and cartilage structures.
  2. Explain in detail a thorough evaluation process for determining disfunction and limitations related to various tissue injuries.
  3. Implement appropriate non-operative and post-operative treatment plans for all complex knee injuries discussed.
  4. Demonstrate competency in joint assessment evaluation techniques including various special tests of the knee.
  5. Critically appraise new research available on diagnosis and treatment of various complex knee injuries.
  6. Recite various co-pathologies and comorbidities related to complex knee injuries discussed.
