Nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system. You’re there during the darkest hours of a patient’s life. Often, you and your colleagues stand as a beacon of hope in times of despair. Yet behind those selfless smiles lies a hidden truth: nurses are not invincible.

You’re human. You have your own vulnerabilities and struggles. Every day, you wage a battle for your patients and your own mental and emotional well-being. The life of a nurse is one of immense dedication, but it’s also one fraught with challenges that can leave deep emotional scars.
This Valentine’s Day, the team at Elite Learning wants to make sure you know how valued you are. We created these printable affirmations for nurses to help you remember what an incredible difference you make to your patients and the world.
Four quick tips to practice self-care
In addition to these affirmations for nurses, here are some simple tips for practicing self-care after your busy shift.
Tip 1: Snuggle up. Oxytocin lowers blood pressure, decreases stress hormone levels, and makes us happier overall. For many people, hugging a friend or petting a pet are simple ways to release oxytocin.
Tip 2: Stretch it out. If you tend to hold stress and tension in your muscles after a long day, indulge in some simple stretches after work to create more space in your body and mind.
Tip 3: Throwback jams. Music is powerful. Make a nostalgic playlist of some of your favorite songs, throw on some headphones, and jam out.
Tip 4: Good clean fun. Cleaning reduces stress by combining the effects of exercise, decluttering, and mindfulness. Set a timer for 15 minutes and focus on one small-but-satisfying task, like decluttering your bathroom counter or wiping the baseboards.
